What does it mean if HPAE union dues are 1.25% of gross pay? Does that mean I also pay dues on the overtime pay I receive?
You pay dues on overtime and any other pay you may receive, including bonuses. All of that is included in gross pay for dues purposes. That means the more you work and get paid, the more you would pay to the union in dues as a percentage of your gross pay.
Since HPAE represents mostly nurses can they get me pay like a nurse?
There are no guarantees in contract negotiations. You could end up with more, less or the same as you have today. And there is no guarantee that you would get nurses’ pay. For example, HPAE also represents some non-nursing jobs at HMH and did not secure nursing level pay for them.
Do any of the HPAE union contracts with Hackensack include the union having the rights to decide what equipment and when to buy it?
No. Deciding when and how to allocate capital is something that is almost always a management prerogative. All of the HPAE nurses contracts have a section called “Management Rights.” Each of these sections gives HMH the right to decide what capital equipment to purchase and when. HPAE’s contracts with HMH do not include giving the union the responsibility to select equipment or determine a schedule for purchasing equipment.
